Supervisor Kaiman Serves as Keynote Speaker at 1st Annual AGES Senior Seminar

North Hempstead, NY – With North Hempstead’s groundbreaking senior program Project Independence gaining national attention, Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman recently gave the keynote address at a forum designed to help support senior care, wellness and quality of life.

The June 29 summit, “Options for Our Aging World Family and Caregiver Resource Fair” was held at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior. It was presented by the Association of Generational Experts for Seniors (AGES), an independent network of knowledgeable professionals from family and senior related fields. Dozens of exhibitors were on hand to provide vital information, products and services.

Supervisor Kaiman’s address to the exhibitors and attendees touched on the benefits of North Hempstead’s innovative “aging in place” initiative Project Independence.

“With a significant portion of the population in the Town sixty years of age or older, it’s critical for us to help seniors navigate the vast network of services available to them. That’s precisely what Project Independence does,” Supervisor Kaiman said.

Project Independence helps connect seniors in the Town to a myriad of services including social workers and nursing services, transportation for medical visits and the supermarket, and handyman services for household repairs, yard work, moving heavy objects, and more.

Thanking Supervisor Kaiman for his participation, Rita Medaglio Barrera, Chairperson of AGES said: “In today’s world of longer life expectancies, having the tools, knowledge and services for supporting senior health and quality lifestyles has become that much more paramount, especially with more insurance companies putting more emphasis on proactive wellness.”

She also went on to say, “The services offered by North Hempstead’s Project Independence program clearly reflect our organization’s vision for senior life.”
