Bosworth & Kaplan Applaud Improvements at Town’s Whitney Pond Park Pool
Housing Authority subsidizing membership fee for residents of Pond View and Spinney Hill Homes

North Hempstead, NY – Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Councilwoman Anna Kaplan recently stopped by the newly-renovated Whitney Pond Park Pool to observe first-hand the $469,200 Phase 1 in improvements made to both the main and wading pools, all completed in time for the pool’s opening this season. This season’s improvements are just Phase One of a two-phase project, totaling $1.5 Million, and are part of the Town’s five year Capital Plan.

In addition, the Town’s Housing Authority will be subsidizing membership fees for residents of the Pond View and Spinney Hill homes, allowing residents of those communities to enjoy a full season of swimming for half of the established rate. For example, a Family Membership fee, which normally goes for $100, will cost residents just $50.

“We are so grateful to the Town’s Housing Authority for offering a reduced rate for nearby residents to enjoy this beautifully renovated pool,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “Neighborhood pools like this one create wonderful summer memories for families and it’s all very affordable.”

“The pool facility at Whitney Pond Park is part of the fabric of this wonderful neighborhood,” said Councilwoman Kaplan. “We are so excited about this year’s improvements at the pool and look forward to seeing even more changes when Phase Two starts next season.”

During 2015, Phase 1 of the project included installing a new vinyl membrane and stainless steel skirt to the pool, and general preparations for the main pool shell. Work was also done to the hot water heaters, pumps, and drains. Phase 2 of the project will begin in 2016.

Also this year, pool goers can enjoy a lap swim from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to any day camps using the pool.

Whitney Pond Park is located in Manhasset and has a main pool and kiddie pool along with a host of other amenities including handball courts, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Residents can also enjoy walks around the centrally located pond, encircled by benches and walking paths. Updates to the pool are part of an initiative to make the park more attractive to residents.
