North Hempstead Recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 5th Straight Year

North Hempstead, NY – The Town of North Hempstead was recognized this week by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada for its commitment to strong fiscal practices. The Town was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fifth consecutive year for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended 2014.

The Town was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial standing.

“The Town of North Hempstead is committed to being fiscally responsible and looking for ways to save taxpayers money,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “It is truly an honor to once again receive the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the GFOA, recognizing our efforts.”

“The Comptroller’s team is pleased to receive this honor, a humbling acknowledgement of the hard work that was put into providing a CAFR that meets GFOA’s impeccable reporting standards,” said Town Comptroller Averil Smith.

The GFOA’s mission is to enhance and promote the professional management of governmental financial resources by identifying, developing, and advancing fiscal strategies, policies, and practices.

The GFOA of the United States and Canada is a non-profit professional association that serves approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
