Town Urges Special Park District Residents to Fill Out Pool Survey

New Hyde Park Park District Residents have opportunity to state their opinion on the Clinton G. Martin Park Pool Facility renovations

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board have mailed a survey to all 13,000 residents of the New Hyde Park Special Park District requesting feedback regarding proposals for the renovation of Clinton G. Martin Park Pool Facility. The survey is also available online, or residents can call the Town’s 311 Call Center and dictate their answers to a call taker. A dedicated email address has been established for anyone with questions regarding the proposed pool project at cgmpoolproject@northhempsteadny.gov.

“The Clinton G. Martin Park Pool is 50 years old and the infrastructure is in dire need of replacement in order for it to stay open beyond the 2016 summer season,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “We are very excited about the proposed renovation plans for the pool, but first we’d like to hear from the residents to get an idea of what they would like to see and what they are willing to pay for.”

There are two options available that allow the pool to stay open and remain an active part of the community. In both options, the footprint of the main pool remains the same, including all swim lanes. If residents prefer neither option, then the pool would remain closed indefinitely after the 2016 season.

Plan 1 would include replacing only the infrastructure of the pool and its internal components (pumps filters, etc.). This option would not change the appearance of the pool facility. This would cost approximately $9 million.

Plan 2 would include replacing the infrastructure and would also redesign the entire facility, adding many amenities such as locker room improvements, more shade area, façade renovations, spray features and a recreation room for park district residents only. This would cost approximately $15 million.

Depending on which construction plan is chosen and which financing plan is selected, a median household in the Special Park District, with a fair market value of $412,400 which currently pays $38.39 in 2016 for their Special District taxes, would pay between $53 and $110 per year total to cover the construction costs. This would only be for residents of the New Hyde Park Park District.

To access the survey in order to provide feedback to the Town on your preferences for the pool, log on to www.northhempsteadny.gov/CGMPoolProject or call 311 or 516-869-6311.
