Supervisor Bosworth Re-Elected For Third Term with 65% of the Vote

North Hempstead, NY –North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth was re-elected on November 7 to her third, two-year term with 27, 244votes, or a 65% margin of victory over her opponent.

“I am truly honored to have been re-elected so that I may continue to serve the people of North Hempstead,” says Bosworth. “I am looking forward to once again working together with our dedicated Town Council as we continue to make the Town of North Hempstead one of the best places to live, raise a family and age in place.”

Supervisor Bosworth first took office in 2014, as the 37th Supervisor of the Town North Hempstead, following six years with the Nassau County Legislature as the representative for the 10th District and 16 years serving as trustee on the Great Neck School District Board of Education.

In the coming months the Supervisor will be focusing on the Town’s Five Year Capital Plan that funds improvements to infrastructure, parks upgrades, road repaving other long-term projects. Since taking office, Bosworth has secured more than $50 million worth of federal, state and local grants for the Town for a myriad of projects and initiatives, including infrastructure projects, environmental initiatives and transportation programs for senior citizens.

Supervisor Bosworth said she also looking forward to continuing work several projects, including the visioning of North Hempstead Beach Park, the Town’s planned dog park, the restoration of the Stepping Stones Lighthouse and the 2018 opening of the newly renovated Clinton G. Martin pool.

“I will also continue to steer the Town in a fiscally prudent direction so that we maintain our strong bond rating,” she added.
Under Bosworth’s leadership and conservative fiscal budgeting, the Town’s finances have been upgraded to Aaa (Triple A) by Moody’s Investors Service, the highest rating attainable by a municipality. During her tenure the Town’s debt has been reduced by $31 million.

From Bosworth’s first day in office, her administration’s hallmark has been to establish an open, inclusive and transparent government that serves all the residents of North Hempstead. She established OpenGov.com on the Town’s website to allow residents to access detailed budget data and a comprehensive report of all payments by the town, by year and vendor. In addition, Town Board meetings are live streamed, agendas and transcribed meeting minutes are available online. Public comment at all Town Board meetings is now at the start of each meeting as a courtesy to residents.

“We are here to serve the taxpayers,” Bosworth says. “I will continue to run Town government in an open and transparent manner, in a way that people can trust, because it’s the only way I know how to do things. Our residents deserve no less.”

This past year, Bosworth lead the Town in the adoption of stringent ethics reforms and financial disclosure policies and a new anti-nepotism law that will bolster and clarify the Town Code of Ethics. These reforms include a more competitive procurement policy with a greater focus on participation by minority and women-owned firms.

“The changes to the Town’s Code of Ethics and the anti-nepotism law will increase openness and transparency in government, and give taxpayers a sense of comfort and trust in their Town government, its elected officials and those doing business with the Town,” Bosworth added.

In 2017 Bosworth cut the ribbon on a new park – Alvan Petrus Park in Port Washington, passed legislation banning ATV’s from Town property, raised the age to purchase cigarettes and tobacco products to 21 years of age in North Hempstead and initiated a “quiet equipment” pilot program at the town’s Clark Botanic garden in order to reduce noise and gas fumes pollution.

Town Council Members Viviana Russell, Lee Seeman and Angelo Ferrara were also re-elected, along with Town Clerk Wayne Wink. Supervisor Bosworth will begin her third full-term as Supervisor on January 1, 2018. The official swearing in ceremony will take place on January 7, 2018 at Clinton G. Martin Park.
