North Hempstead Commemorate Memorial Day with a Fireworks Celebration at Bar Beach

Fireworks are Great Success Nearly 15,000 in Attendance

Port Washington, NY- Supervisor Jon Kaiman, the North Hempstead Town Board, and other State and County officials, joined a crowd of nearly 15,000 people for the return of the annual Town of North Hempstead Memorial Day fireworks extravaganza at Bar Beach. A beautiful early summer day lead to a spectacular concert and evening of events culminating with an incredible fireworks show lighting up the sky at dark.

“The Town of North Hempstead is proud to once again host our Memorial Day Fireworks show and celebrate our nation by paying tribute to those generations of brave Americans who have shouldered the heavy burden of defending liberty,” said Supervisor Kaiman.

This year’s show began with a special tribute to three fallen soldiers who graduated from North Hempstead’s Chaminade High School in Mineola. The three local servicemen who were given special recognition were, Michael LiCalzi, James Regan and Ronald Winchester. Supervisor Jon Kaiman along with President of Chaminade High School Father James Williams spoke in front of thousands of onlookers in remembrance of the three honorees, and all the other men and women of the armed forces.

“Tonight Supervisor Kaiman, the Town Board, and I would like to pay a special tribute to three young men who are very special to both the community and me personally,” said Father James. “These fearless young men served our Country with great honor and pride, and although they are not with us here tonight, they will never leave our thoughts and prayers.”

In honor of the three soldiers wreathes and photos of the local heroes were on display for the ceremonies. Speeches were followed by a spectacular musical tribute that included performances by the Nassau County Police band and an appearance by the US Marine Corps Color Guard.

Following the ceremonies attendees were entertained by an amazing musical show entitled the Sensational 60’s and 70’s show. The show included performances from Sonny Geraci’s Ousiders, Maxine Nightinggale, Looking Glass, Gary U.S. Bonds and The Shagri-Las.

“Since we brought the Memorial day Fireworks show back to the Town of North Hempstead, it has grown every year in both size, and entertainment,” Said Supervisor Kaiman. “Next year it will be back and even bigger and better.”
