Tobias Harris Hosts 4th Annual Basketball & Life-Skills Workshop at ‘Yes We Can’

Clinic to run August 20 -24, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Council Member Viviana Russell and the Town Board are pleased to announce that for a fourth year in a row, they will be partnering with NBA-star Tobias Harris and Unique All Stars Inc. to offer a FREE unique summer basketball clinic at the “Yes We Can” Community Center in New Cassel.

The Unique All Stars Inc. Basketball Clinic will also include educational, career and interpersonal skills workshops, and will be offered to “Yes We Can” members for free. It will run from August 20 through the 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“I am thrilled that we are once again offering this educational and unique program to middle and high school students this summer, which gives them an unique opportunity to polish both their interpersonal and physical skills,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “It truly a wonderful role model for our young people and we are grateful he is once again offering this workshop.”

Campers will get to work on their basketball skills such as shooting drills, ball handling, and defense, but also will be coached on good health, yoga, nutrition, the food pyramid, and career assessment.

Mr. Harris, who currently plays with the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers, grew up on Long Island. After graduating from Half Hollow Hills High School, he attended the University of Tennessee. After his freshman year in college, he was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the 19th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.

“Once again we are looking forward to an exciting camp for our youngsters in North Hempstead. We are very grateful for the commitment the Harris family has made to continue this much-needed program in the community,” said Council Member Russell.

“Every year I look forward to coming back to Long Island and working with the youth. It’s been a great partnership for us and the community. It’s nice to be able to contribute in a positive way, through the sport of basketball and mentoring,” said Tobias Harris.

The “Yes We Can” Community Center is located at 144 Garden Street in Westbury. To register for the clinic, please call 311.
