Town Clerk Wayne Wink Named Registrar of Vital Statistics for Village of Mineola

Consolidation of services is a win-win for Town, Village

North Hempstead, NY – TNorth Hempstead Town Clerk Wayne Wink was named the official Registrar of Vital Statistics by the Village of Mineola Board of Trustees, making North Hempstead the largest registrar on Long Island and one of the top in New York State. The Town Clerk is Registrar of Vital Statistics and issues and maintains all birth and death and records in the Town.

This consolidation of services will be phased in over the next year, as the Town begins to process new and existing birth and death records from Mineola. Currently, the Town processes about 6500 birth records a year and 2400 death records, as well as other vital statistics. The addition of the Village of Mineola’s statistics, which will include all birth and death records generated from NYU Winthrop Hospital, will add nearly 5000 birth records and 750 death records to the Town’s duties.

“This is exactly the type of program the New York State Department of Health would like to see implemented all across the state, “ said Clerk Wink. “As we implement this transition over the next year, I look forward to bringing this program into the Town’s fold.”

The Town Clerk’s Office will be upgrading its software system over the next few months and will maintain accessibility throughout the process.

“The Town of North Hempstead’s Clerk and office staff stand ready to take on this additional responsibility and I know that they will serve the residents of Mineola efficiently, as they do the other dozens of villages that count on us for their vital statistics registrations,” said Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth.

During the transition, the Town and the Village will provide up-to-date information on how constituents can access their records. For more information, please call the Town’s 311 Call Center.

The Town Clerk also issues State licenses such as marriage, hunting and fishing, going out of business sale, games of chance, dog, bingo and raffles. The Clerk issues Town licenses including taxi, towing, peddlers, solid waste collection and film permits.
