Kaiman: "A New Era of Town Government"

Supervisor Outlines Three Major Initiatives for the First Year

Roslyn, NY – North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman delivered his first State of the Town address today outlining his major initiatives for his first year in office. The event, which was hosted by the League of Women Voters of Port Washington-Manhasset, was followed by a brief tour of several areas throughout the Town that were referenced in the Supervisor's address. Among the special guests who attended the event were Baltimore City Mayor Martin O'Malley and County Comptroller Howard Weitzman.

"The Town is in an excellent financial position," said Supervisor Kaiman.  "Now that our financial situation is on a solid footing, we are able to focus town resources on quality of life issues and modern management techniques in a way that we could not in the past."

Continuing to make the Town's financial integrity a top priority in his new administration, Kaiman outlined a bold plan detailing three areas of focus in his first year: Debt Management, Business Development, and community-Based Planning.

The Supervisor's Community-Based Planning initiative is a direct result of the success of the New Cassel redevelopment project. "We are  looking forward to breaking ground in New Cassel on a brand new main street and we will use this community based planning model throughout the town in order to engage our town residents when we are making planning decisions," added Kaiman.

"As a result we will be looking to build our economic base through sustainable business development in a way the meets with the communities vision of itself."

In addition, the Supervisor outlined a plan to modernize the Town's information technology infrastructure creating a new "response-oriented approach" to constituent services. "Our ability to respond to our residents in a timely, meaningful way as a result of today's technological advances is an exciting prospect with extraordinary potential."
