Town Update on Tully Park Pool
New Hyde Park, NY—Supervisor Jon Kaiman announced today the update renovation of the Tully Park pool and associated facilities remains on track for a late fall 2009 opening.
In addition to the swimming pool work, extensive renovation and rebuilding of the support utilities for the building, including water supply, wastewater discharge, and the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system is required.
Indoor swimming pools have very specific and demanding requirements for the air handling system, both for the benefit and health of the users, as well as for the protection and longevity of the pool equipment and facility, so it’s important that the engineers spend time sizing and selecting the equipment for the natatorium.
Plans for the 'new' pool remain relatively unchanged from the initial sketch which was featured in the Town's "Summer Guide", which was mailed to all residents.
The pool will include the same number of lap lanes for the exercise swimmer/walker as we now have, plus an interactive water feature area, a water slide, and full disability access through the use of 'zero depth' entry features as well as a pool lift. The only feature which will not be replaced in the new design is the diving area—the least utilized area in the current facility.
The exercise room, locker rooms, and shower areas are all being renovated and expanded, with the exercise room being moved to a location which provides a clear sightline to the pool area.
“The Town of North Hempstead thanks you for your continued interest in our facilities,” remarked Supervisor Kaiman. “We look forward to welcoming you back to the "new" Tully Park Physical Activities Center in the late fall of 2009.
The town will be placing periodical updates regarding the progress of the pool project on the town’s website, www.northhempsteadny.gov.
