North Hempstead Kicks off Total Revitalization of Manhasset Valley Park

Manhasset, NY—Supervisor Jon Kaiman reported that the town is prepared to go forward on a revitalization project for Manhasset Valley Park in Manhasset.

The project has an environmental and recreational component to it and involves the reconstruction of the baseball field which will include the installation of a turf infield; the addition of an athletic field next to the baseball field; and the environmental remediation of the stream that feeds into Manhasset Bay.

The Town has received commitments for over $1 million of grant dollars toward this project. The Indians Rock organization and Manhasset PAL have committed to raising $150,000 each toward the recreation portion of this project and the United States Army Corp of Engineers has committed over $800,000 toward the engineering analysis and design for the environmental remediation of the waterway.

The Town of North Hempstead has recently authorized $1.5 million for this project in the Town’s 2011 capital plan.

Also included in the project will be the installation of new bathrooms in compliance with the Americans with Disability Act, new walking paths, and a new playground.
