Clark Botanic Garden to Have Busy Fall Lineup

Albertson, NY- Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Councilman Thomas Dwyer announced this week the schedule of upcoming events to be held at North Hempstead’s Clark Botanical Garden.  The fall schedule, which will begin in mid-September, includes 14 events to take place over an 8 week period.

            “I am excited by the varied and fascinating series of events that Clark Botanical Garden will be holding this fall,” said Supervisor Jon Kaiman.  “The staff has clearly worked hard at providing residents with activities that will make a truly fantastic fall at the garden.”

Clark Botanic Garden is a 12-acre living museum and educational facility. The garden is dedicated to understanding and appreciating the world's plant life through horticulture, education and research.  Collections include native wildflowers, conifers, roses, perennials, daylilies, wetland plants, rock garden plants, herbs, butterfly plants, medicinal plants and over a dozen collections of particular plant families.  Open 10:00am to 4:30pm daily.  For more information please call (516) 484-8600. 

 

The events at Clark Botanic Garden will include:

 

Butterfly Gardening                                                           Monday, September 20 at 2 pm

A talk and slide presentation in the Clark House. Bring your enthusiasm, curiosity and your butterfly net! The Garden will be available for touring before and after the meeting. A wonderful family event!

Admission: $4 for members and $6 for nonmembers

 

Watercolor Workshop                        Sept 23, 30, October 14, November 4th at 10am – 1 pm

Techniques to inspire your creativity: handling washes, mixing color, and designing effective compositions. Local award winning watercolorist Ellen Nilsen will provide hands on instruction and guidance. Space limited. Basic material list provided upon registration.

Fee: $50 for members and $60 for non-members

Native American Festival                                            Sunday, September 26 at 12-2:30 pm

Book Club                                                                      Wednesday September 29th at 2 pm

The Fascinating World of the Bat                                     Thursday, October 21st at 2 pm

Naturalist Sy Berman leads our exploration inside the world of this mysterious creature of legend and the night. Learn about the daily contributions of bats in our landscape, how they fit into the wheel of life, and how they pollinate hundreds of different plants and flowers.

Discover what the Nose Knows                                       Sunday, November 14th at 2 pm

An introduction to aromatherapy– the healing and beatifying properties of the essential oils of flowers and herbs. A lecture and slide presentation. The event will take place on

Holiday Floral Arrangements                                        Wednesday, November 17 at 2pm

With Jerilyn Dreitlein of Greenleaf and Bloom of Roslyn. Learn the fundamentals of designing a fresh floral centerpiece for your home or as a gift. Materials and refreshments included. Please bring along your own pruning sheers or clippers and gloves.

Fee: $40 for members and $50 for non-members.

 

Plants of the Bible, Fireside Lecture Series        Saturday, November 27th, 2:00PM

In the story of Genesis, we read that God created plants on the third day. In both the old and new testaments abound with references to plants and flowers that still bloom today. Discover the plants that continue to thrive, explore biblical roots and their ancient and modern uses. Enjoy them in your home and garden. All participants will receive an aloe plant referenced in both the old and new testaments.
