Kaiman Launches Operation Clean Sweep 2012

North Hempstead, NY– With the arrival of spring, Supervisor Jon Kaiman and the North Hempstead Town Board announced the upcoming kick-off of the annual Operation Clean Sweep, the town-wide spring clean-up effort.

“Our residents deserve clean and safe streets and Operation Clean Sweep delivers on that promise,” said Supervisor Jon Kaiman. “According to TownStat, over 2,000 tons of dirt and debris are cleaned annually from Town streets.”

Operation Clean Sweep, which for six years now has collected thousands of tons of dirt and debris from the Town’s roadways, will take place in two phases:

From Monday April 23 to Friday April 27 all town streets in the unincorporated areas south of the Long Island Expressway will be cleaned.

And on week two, from Monday April 30 to Friday, May 4 town streets north of the Long Island Expressway will get their turn.

In order to ensure that every area is thoroughly swept and cleaned, the Highway Department asks that residents refrain from parking their vehicles on the street between 7:00 am.- 3:00 pm. In addition to sweeping all the town’s streets, crews will be out in neighborhoods cleaning catch basins and sweeping handicap ramps.
