Town Announces Dates for 2013 Community Clean-ups

 

Manhasset, NY– As has been the tradition since he took office, Supervisor Jon Kaiman and the North Hempstead Town Board have organized community clean-ups across the Town throughout the month of April. During these clean-up efforts, community organizations town-wide volunteer to help clear their neighborhoods of debris in the spirit of spring and in the process help maintain the Towns enviable quality of life.

This initiative is part of the Town’s month-long Earth Day celebration, and its ongoing commitment to protecting the environment.

“Our community always steps up to the plate this time of year to help ensure their neighborhood remains clean and pristine, and that the Town of North Hempstead retains the high quality of life that our residents deserve,” Supervisor Jon Kaiman said.

Dates for these clean-ups include:

- Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 9am: Port Washington LIRR Station
Organized by Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio and Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington.

- Saturday, April 20, 2013:
9am: Nature Trail Clean up at North Hempstead Beach Park; 
Organized by Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio. At least forty 5th graders from Guggenheim Elementary School (Sands Point) will be joined by the Schreiber Treehuggers Environmental Club

10am: Manhasset/ Great Neck Economic Opportunity Council, 65 High Street, Manhasset (in front of the building) 
Organized by Councilwoman Anna Kaplan

10am: Side Walk Sweep across from North Hempstead Town Hall, 220 Plandome Road, Manhasset; 
Organized by Councilwoman Anna Kaplan

10am: High Street residents: Bottom of High Street, Manhasset; 
Organized by Councilwoman Anna Kaplan

10am, 11am, and 2pm: Clinton G. Martin Park, Marcus Avenue and New Hyde Park Road, New Hyde Park
Organized by Councilwoman Lee Seeman; Girl Scouts and Daisys from New Hyde Park to volunteer.

10am-- A section of the Long Island Motor Parkway in East Williston. This historic section of the Motor Parkway is adjacent to the site of the Roslyn Lodge and between the two former Motor Parkway bridges over Roslyn Road and the Oyster Bay LIRR track. Helpers will be meeting on Croyden Court, East Williston.

Sunday, April 21, 2013:
10am Whitney Pond Park; Meet in the parking lot and town personnel will cross everyone safely to the other side of Community Drive.  The Highway Department will close one of the lanes on Community Drive.
Organized by Councilwoman Anna Kaplan

1pm: Ridder’s Pond, Marcus Ave. and Meadow Farm Rd., New Hyde Park
Organized by Councilwoman Lee Seeman; Cub Scouts will participate.

Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 12pm: Herricks Middle School, 7 Hilldale Drive, Albertson
Organized by Councilman Tom Dwyer; an environmental presentation will be given to 300 students, followed by a school grounds clean-up by the students.
