Town Spreads Holiday Cheer with Drives for Toys, Socks and Personal Care Items

North Hempstead, NY – With the holiday season in full swing, the Town of North Hempstead is proud to announce it will be helping those less fortunate through donation drives for toys, socks and personal care items.

Organized through North Hempstead’s Project Independence, the annual Hannah’s Socks and Personal Care drives provide items for the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN). Last year alone, the Town was able to collect 1,100 items. In addition to new men’s, women’s and children’s socks, items that are most needed include: toothpaste, deodorant, disposable razors, baby diapers and wipes and towels (body, face and wash cloths). With a total of 3 shelters and a soup kitchen the INN will help to distribute bags of toiletries and new socks to individuals at the shelters. Drop boxes for socks and personal care items are set up at all Town facilities and Project Independence locations.

The Town will also have Toys for Tots boxes set up at several Town facilities including Town Hall, 220 Plandome Road, Manhasset; Clinton G. Martin Park 1601 Marcus Ave, New Hyde Park; and Public Works at 285 Denton Avenue, New Hyde Park. The U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation is a not-for-profit public charity that collects new and unwrapped toys to be distributed to children in the community. The organization hopes to instill a message of hope to needy children that will motivate them to grow into responsible and productive citizens and community leaders.

The Hannah’s socks and personal care items drive will be ongoing through January and the Toys for Tots boxes will be at Town facilities until Dec. 17.
