Senior Couples Renew Their Vows at Town’s Annual Valentine’s Day Ceremony

New Hyde Park, NY – More than 60 senior couples from across the Town of North Hempstead braved nearly a foot of snow to make it to the 5th Annual Valentine’s Day Vow Renewal Ceremony at the Clubhouse at Harbor Links on February 14th. The event, hosted by Town Clerk Wayne Wink, gave married couples the opportunity to publicly reaffirm their love and commitment for one another.

Wink, who also serves as the Town’s official Marriage Officer said, “Marriage is a wonderful institution that evolves each day. It gives us the unique opportunity to spend joyous events together, which are doubly pleasurable with someone to share it with.”

Each couple was introduced individually by Town Councilman Peter Zuckerman as they walked down the aisle. Brides and Grooms then all stood in unison and renewed their vows before enjoying a sumptuous luncheon.

Three couples that collectively have been married for over two hundred years had the honor of performing the ceremonial cake-cutting. They were Larry and Ruth Shifman of Lakeville Estates (72 years), Ann and Ben Schreibman of Great Neck (70 years), and Lawrence and Jeanne Kaplan of Manhasset (67 years).

“It still feels like the first year we’re married,” said Ruth Shifman, who was attending her 3rd Vow Renewal Ceremony. “We are happy, healthy and we want to keep that up.”

Shifman befriended Ann Schreibman just a few years ago in Great Neck and enticed her to attend the event. “All I can say is that I am so fortunate to have such wonderful children, grandchildren and health,” said Schreibman.
