North Hempstead Launches Boat Shrink Wrap Recycling Program

North Hempstead, NY – With warmer weather and the spring season quickly approaching, Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the North Hempstead Town Board are proud to launch North Hempstead’s Boat Shrink Wrap Recycling Program (BSWRP). The new program will recycle used plastic shrink wrap that covers recreational boats during the off season.

“This is an extraordinary program that will help keep our waterways clean, while preventing plastic from piling up at our landfills. Not only will it help protect our local marine wildlife, but it will help protect our local community as well,” said Supervisor Bosworth.

Residents can recycle their boat shrink wrap at the Resident Drop-Off on Sundays from 7:30AM – 3:30PM (except Holidays). The Resident Drop-Off is located at the Solid Waste Management Authority Transfer Station at 999 West Shore Road. There will be a recycling container on site to collect the boat shrink wrap.

Additionally, commercial marinas and residential boat owners can deposit boat shrink wrap at North Hempstead’s Town Dock at any time.

All shrink wrap that is being deposited for recycling must be clean, with all lumber, rope, nails and garbage removed from the plastic.
