Block Party Permits: A Must Have for Summer Fun

For Immediate Release - Contact: David Chauvin July 18, 2005 (516) 869-7794

Manhasset, NY – Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Town Clerk Michelle Schimel remind residents interested in hosting a block party to apply for the necessary permits in the Town Clerk’s office. There is much to celebrate in the summer and fall months; throwing a block party is one of the best ways to bring the neighborhood together. In order to have a safe, fun atmosphere at your local block party, it is required that you file a Block Party Application. This permit ensures that those hosting the party are aware of local regulations.

“North Hempstead is known for neighborhood-friendly block parties,” said Town Clerk Michelle Schimel. “It is the perfect way to relax and get to know your friends and neighbors. The most important aspect of a block party is to make sure that everyone is safe.”

There are some things to keep in mind when throwing a block party; give yourself plenty of time to apply for the permit, the last thing you would want is to show up the day before the anticipated party and realize that you don’t have all the required signatures for the permit. It is also important to familiarize yourself with the laws regarding noise control and alcohol consumption. The permit is required to educate those hosting the block party about fire and safety hazards.

“Attending or hosting a safe, yet fun, block party with your friends and family will leave a lasting impression on the neighborhood,” remarked Jon Kaiman. “It will make the next block party something everyone will look forward to in anticipation.”

To apply for a Block Party permit you can apply in person at 200 Plandome Rd. Manhasset, N.Y. 11030 or download an application from the Town’s website at www.northhempsteadny.govthen click on Office of the Town Clerk, Online forms and then Block Party Application.
