Carle Place, NY– Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Councilman Robert Troiano joined the Town’s Department of Public Safety and officers from Nassau County Police Department’s Third Precinct and Highway Patrol last week in a continued effort to crack down on illegal truck traffic through residential streets in Carle Place and New Cassel.Over 35 tickets were issued at two checkpoints that were set up at the intersection of Roslyn Avenue and Cherry Lane in Carle Place and along the residential portion of Urban Avenuein New Cassel during the morning rush hour.

“These laws are in place to keep our streets safe and protect our residents’ quality of life,” said Supervisor Kaiman.“Truckers come barreling down these streets just to save a few minutes and end up endangering the lives of our residents and their children.”

“Residents throughout my district from New Cassel to Carle Place bear the burden of trucks that illegally cut through our community on their way to the industrial-commercial zones just south of us,” Councilman Troiano said.“With the aid of the Nassau County Police Department, we hope to send a message to the truckers that we are sick and tired and we’re not going to take it anymore.”

A total of 41 summonses were issued between the two checkpoints. In addition, two arrests were made according to officers at the scene. One man, who was driving a cement mixer, was found to have a suspended license that had resulted from a previous arrest for DWI. The other man was arrested for reckless driving. Earlier last month the Town and the Third Precinct conducted another crack down in New Cassel, issuing 44 summonses in two hours.

“I am grateful for the cooperation we received from the police and I am hopeful that the ticketed truckers will get the message not to disobey our laws,” added Supervisor Kaiman.
