Supervisor Bosworth & Third Precinct Host Community Crime Forum
North Hempstead, NY – Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth hosted a Community Crime Forum this week with Sean McCarthy, Inspector of the Nassau County Police Department’s 3rd Precinct. The nearly 200 people in attendance at Clinton G. Martin Park heard from Inspector McCarthy about a series of home burglaries that have taken place in areas of New Hyde Park, Williston Park, Munsey Park and Flower Hill since last October. Also in attendance were Councilman Peter Zuckerman, Councilwoman Lee Seeman, Town Clerk Wayne Wink and Town Receiver of Taxes Charles Berman and members of the Port Washington Police Department.
“We are fortunate to have Inspector McCarthy, a responsive and pro-active leader of the Third Precinct, to inform and educate us about how to keep ourselves and our property safe,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “As Inspector McCarthy stresses, it’s vitally important that residents be the eyes and ears of their neighborhood and report any suspicious activity or unusual vehicles. We are all partners with the police and with each other.”
Inspector McCarthy told the audience that police are investigating several possible suspects in a series of pattern burglaries that have occurred in the area. He said the crimes appear to be the work of “organized professionals who are meticulous and do this for a living.”
Police urge residents to call 911 immediately if their house is burglarized and to resist the urge to clean up any broken glass or damaged property. The Third Precinct also has crime prevention tips available on its website: http://www.police.co.nassau.ny.us/PublicServiceInfoPDF.aspx?id=5
