The Future of Plandome Road Is In Your Hands

North Hempstead Sponsors Business/Property Owners Forum

Immediate Release Contact: David Chauvin February 23, 2006 (516) 869-7794

Manhasset, NY - Town of North Hempstead and the North Hempstead Business and Tourism Development Corporation will be sponsoring a forum for the Manhasset business community on Friday March 10th at 12:00pm at Lessing’s Restaurant, 355 Plandome Road. The forum, which is part of the Plandome Road Visioning process begun last year, will discuss options for safety and streetscape improvements. Additionally, options for grants and partnerships with the Town in implementing improvements to both the streetscape and building facades will be discussed at this meeting.

“I encourage all the business and property owners along Plandome Road to come and participate in this unique process,” said Supervisor Kaiman.

“The goals of this visioning project are to increase the safety, walkability and foot traffic of Plandome Road, while enhancing the aesthetic character of the area,” said Councilman Wayne Wink. “We look forward to a productive dialogue among residents, business owners and the Town, and by working together I know that we can achieve great things for Plandome Road.”

The Town of North Hempstead has initiated a visioning process for Plandome Road between Northern Blvd. and Webster Avenue in Manhasset. Since last December, the Town has sponsored public meetings with the entire Manhasset community to consider possible streetscape improvements including new lighting, a façade improvement program, and installation of benches, trees, and sidewalk and curb replacements.

“North Hempstead recognizes the importance of supporting businesses in our community and facilitating their success,” said Executive Director of North Hempstead Business & Tourism Development Corporation Leslie Gross. “That is why it is so important that we hear from the business community as to the future of this important commercial corridor.”

Business owners interested in attending the forum can RSVP by calling (516) 869-7694. Additional information about this exciting initiative can be found on the Town’s website: www.northhempsteadny.gov.
