Bosworth & Town Board Unanimously Approve Comptroller
North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board on Tuesday unanimously approved the appointment of Averil Smith to the position of Town Comptroller. Smith is a Certified Public Accountant, with more than 23 years of financial experience in the private sector.
“My administration is committed to fiscal stability and I am confident that Averil can lead our comptroller’s office with the conservative eye necessary to keep the Town on a strong financial foundation,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “I believe her previous experience and success at a host of reputable private companies will translate well to municipal government.”
“I look forward to joining the Town of North Hempstead and working with the Supervisor, Town Board and staff, as we continue to build on the Town’s strong financial legacy,” said Smith.
Smith previously held positions as Controller at both MZ Berger, Inc., a watch manufacturing company, and at ABC Home Furnishings, as well as eleven years in various audit roles including nearly three years at Ernst & Young. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Brooklyn College, and a Master’s degree in Finance from Baruch College.
Smith resides in Elmont, and is scheduled to start in her new position after Labor Day.
