Town Breaks Ground on Workforce Housing in New Cassel
Westbury, NY – Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth, the Town Board and the Town of North Hempstead Community Development Agency (CDA) in cooperation with the Long Island Housing Partnership, Inc. joined together on October 30 to break ground on the first of 15 newly constructed homes as part of the North Hempstead Workforce Housing Program.
This two-story, three bedroom home will be joined in New Cassel by two other brand new single-family homes, one totally renovated home, and eleven two-story three-bedroom townhomes. Owners for these new residences were determined through the Workforce Housing Program Lottery held in December 2014.
“Finding affordable housing on Long Island is not an easy task,” Supervisor Bosworth said. “I am proud that we are providing an opportunity for local residents to live the American dream right here in North Hempstead.”
“Providing affordable housing options is a key part of the revitalization of any community,” Councilwoman Viviana Russell said. “I look forward to continuing to work with our partners in government on this endeavor as we prepare to welcome new young homeowners and their families to our neighborhood over the coming weeks and months.”
Construction on this house is slated to take six to nine months with construction on the other single-family homes slated to begin in the next three to four months.
The North Hempstead Workforce Housing program has been coordinated with the assistance of County of Nassau and its Office of Community Development, and the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation.
