Barnes & Noble Pledges Percentage of Any Purchase to Support Stepping Stones Lighthouse

Purchases made on Dec. 18 will help to fund restoration project

North Hempstead, NY – Anyone making a purchase at the Manhasset Barnes & Noble, located at 1542 Northern Blvd., on December 18 can tell the cashier that they are shopping for the Stepping Stones Lighthouse, and the Great Neck Historical Society (GNHS) will get a percentage of the proceeds will benefits the restoration of the Stepping Stones Lighthouse.

“This is a wonderful way to support the efforts of the Town and the Great Neck Historical Society as we work together to restore this maritime treasure,” said North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth.

Shoppers must give the ID number – 12052858 – to assure that the GNHS receives the percentage of the sale. In addition, anyone shopping online at BN.com from December 18 through December 23 may use the same ID number to provide a portion of their sales to the GNHS.

The historic Stepping Stones Lighthouse was built in 1877 and is currently in need of structural repairs. An evaluation done approximately five years ago, estimated the total restoration project to be approximately $4 million, according to Town officials. Through a partnership between the Town of North Hempstead and the Great Neck Historical Society, the Town provides in-kind services to assist with repairs. So far, funds for the restoration project have come through grants and private donations.
