“Yes We Can” Community Center to Host Children’s Computer Safety Class

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Council Member Viviana Russell are pleased to announce that the “Yes We Can” Community Center in New Cassel will be hosting a computer safety workshop for children called “Cybersecurity and You.”

This program is free and is open to all Town residents, grades 6 through 8. The classes will meet Monday through Thursday, at the “Yes We Can” Community Center from March 6 through March 23 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Students in this program will be reading and writing comic-book stories that are focused on cybersecurity: being safe on the Internet, and possible careers in cybersecurity. The classes will be taught by PhD students from Stony Brook University, supervised by Dr. Lori Scarlatos of Stony Brook University and Laurin Buchanan of Secure Decisions, a division of Applied Visions, Inc. This program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

Information sessions about the upcoming program will be held at ”Yes We Can” Community Center on Monday, February 13 and Thursday, February 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. Parents/guardians and their children interested in this program are encouraged to attend.
