Town to Meet with Landscapers and Establish Advisory Board for Local Gas Leaf Blower Legislation

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board announced during a Town Board meeting on September 26 plans to establish an advisory board to discuss upcoming legislation about the regulation of gas powered leaf blowers.

After concerns from residents about gas leaf blowers, the Town began looking at regulations and found that numerous municipalities across the country including those in New York and villages towns, cities in Westchester, have passed legislation that has either banned or restricted the use of gas leaf blowers.

Prior to the meeting Supervisor Bosworth said, “We believe strongly in listening and learning from the public hearing process.” She also explained that the proposed legislation about gas leaf blowers would not be voted on at that meeting and that an advisory board would be established.

The new advisory board would work together to improve on the law and its enforcement and be comprised of landscapers, environmentalists and residents. The goal is to take all the ideas and suggestions to create a law that works for all parties.

Once a revised law has been drafted, the Town will publish the date and continue the public hearing.
