National Night Out Kicks Off with Parade in Westbury

Premier Sponsor Applebee’s donating FREE burgers and hot dogs once again!

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Councilwoman Viviana Russell, and Nassau County Legislator Siela Bynoe, in conjunction with North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center, invite residents to join them, other elected officials, and members of the community on Tuesday, August 7 in celebrating “National Night Out 2018,” the 35th annual rally against crime.

“When building good relationships between people, nothing connects in a more meaningful way than face to face interactions and that is what National Night Out offers,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “When residents, law enforcement and businesses come together over food and fun it builds a bridge to understanding,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “National Night Out has been doing that 35 years and I look forward to joining with the community for this year’s festivities.”

National Night Out is an annual community-building event that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, caring places to live. The event offers information about health provider services and educational resources. It also features live music, games, refreshments, a performance by the National Circus Project, and more.

The event kicks off with a parade, starting at 5:30 p.m., at the Salvation Army on 992 Prospect Avenue in Westbury. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. at Martin “Bunky” Reid Park, located at Broadway and Swalm Street in Westbury.

Applebee’s and Target are the main sponsors for this year’s event with support from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority – Pi Pi Omega Chapter, the Town of North Hempstead, Nassau County, and North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center. Local businesses and organizations in the community and in the surrounding areas have a presence at the event as well.

Applebee’s, the premier sponsor, is donating free hundreds of burgers and hot dogs for the event. This is the third year in a row that Applebee’s has sponsored the event.

“It is vital as a municipality we leverage every opportunity in strengthening the relationship between our community and those who serve the community,” said Council Member Russell. “The partnerships created for National Night Out have proven to be a successful tool in doing just that. This year’s National Night Out is a spectacular event you would not want to miss.”

“For 35 years, National Night Out events have offered families an opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled summer evening with their neighbors and build relationships with the law enforcement professionals entrusted with protecting us,” Nassau County Legislator Siela A. Bynoe said. “I am proud to join Supervisor Bosworth, Councilwoman Russell and the Nassau County Police Department to host National Night Out in Westbury and welcome all residents to stand with us as advocates for stronger, more unified communities.”
