Town Appoints New Highway Superintendent

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth announced today the appointment of Richard Baker, an experienced public works commissioner and highway supervisor, as the Town’s new Highway Superintendent. The Town Board approved the appointment at its February 28 board meeting.

Baker’s 30 years of experience includes a position as special projects supervisor with the Suffolk County Department of Public Works; fleet consolidation administrative manager with the New York City Department of Sanitation; and Commissioner of the Department of Public Works for the Town of Islip. Baker also served on the Executive Board of the New York State Association of Town Highway Superintendents Association and on the executive board with the Suffolk County Highway Superintendents Association.

“After a very thorough search for a qualified candidate, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Baker, who possesses the experience, professionalism and leadership skills necessary to oversee our Highway Department,” said the Supervisor. “I know that he understands that serving our residents and keeping our roads safe are among our top priorities.”

“I look forward to working with the Supervisor, Town Board members and the dedicated employees of the Town’s Highway Department,” said Superintendent Baker.

The Town has currently been operating under the able leadership of Acting Highway Superintendent Kevin Cronin, who will continue to serve in other capacities in the Highway Department.
