Bosworth Reminds Residents of Free Caseworker Services Available Exclusively to Town’s Veterans

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, members of the Town Board and the Town’s Veterans Advisory Committee remind residents that the Town’s Department of Services for the Aging (DOSA) allocates seven to 10 hours a week of social work exclusively devoted to veterans’ needs. The availability of a caseworker is at no additional cost to the Town and comes from reallocating hours of an already existing case worker. There are approximately 1,200 veterans in the Town.

“Our veterans have given so much to our community and our country and I am honored to be able to provide them with this service,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “Our veterans’ needs can be addressed by a social worker who is specifically trained in issues that affect our veterans.”

The caseworker focuses on a number of veterans’ issues including assisting them to access the benefits that they are entitled to and connecting them to services. Since the program’s inception in 2015, the specialized caseworker has served hundreds of veterans with caregiver and entitlement assistance, bereavement counseling, information and referrals.

The caseworker works with the veterans by appointment at the DOSA offices located at Clinton G. Martin Park (CGM) in New Hyde Park. For more information or to make an appointment, please call 311.

This is part of the Town’s ongoing effort to assist veterans in the Town which has already included the placement of the Northport Veterans Medical Center’s mobile van at CGM three days a week, a discount for veterans at numerous local businesses and a donation drive through the VA Medical Center.
