North Hempstead Celebrates 10th Annual Asian-American Festival with Music, Food and Dance

North Hempstead, NY – The Town of North Hempstead welcomed hundreds of attendees to the 10th Annual Asian-American Festival held on May 18 at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington, sponsored by WAC Lighting.The festival, which hit a milestone of 10 years, celebrates the cultures of China, India, Japan, Pakistan and Korea. The spirited event included live performances from around the world, food from local restaurants, a marketplace and cultural activities.

“North Hempstead is one of the most culturally diverse places to live and we embrace that diversity,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “Our lives are all enriched when we learn about other’s cultures. It creates better understanding and harmony and that is beneficial to all.”

Festival attendees were treated to dozens of performances from around the globe which included the a Chinese acrobatic show and Dragon Ribbon Dance, Korean Pop Performance, Buyo/Japanese Traditional Dance, Musical presentation by the Children of PACOLI (Pakistan) and an Indian Rajasthan Spring Dance.

The event was organized by the Town of North Hempstead, in partnership with the Town’s Asian-American Festival Committee, which includes community representatives from China, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, and India.
