North Hempstead Project Independence Team to Host 5th “Aging-in-Place” Conference and Expo

October 29, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Harbor Links

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board are proud to announce the Town’s 5th Regional Aging-In-Place Conference and Expo will be held on October 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Harbor Links Clubhouse, One Fairway Drive, Port Washington. The FREE event will be hosted by the Town’s Project Independence (PI) senior program. This year’s theme is “Operation PI Connect.”

The conference will feature 50 exhibitors, all of whom serve the aging population with programs, products and services. Project Independence staff will be on hand to talk about all the PI services and programs available to the senior residents of the Town, including transportation programs (PI-taxi program and senior Town bus program), health and human services (nursing and social work), social activities, health-chats, fitness classes, advisory committees, and much more.

The program will begin with Supervisor Judi Bosworth who will address the conference. With Keynote speaker, Dr. Maria Torroella Carney, MD, FACP, Medical Director, Post-Acute Services; Chief, Division of Geriatric & Palliative Medicine- Northwell Health to follow, along with two panels discussing Veterans Benefits and Entitlements and Medicare 2020 updates.

Supervisor Bosworth said, “We are excited to once again host our Project Independence Conference and Expo which highlights our innovative senior program Project Independence.  Attendees will have the unique opportunity to speak to exhibitors, as well as to hear from a full lineup of experts who will help attendees achieve the goal of aging comfortably in their own home.”

Other than the Town of North Hempstead, Northwell Health will be recognized as this year’s platinum sponsor.

The conference will feature FREE breakfast and FREE transportation from various locations throughout the Town.  Space is limited. Registration is required, so please call 311 to sign up for the event, and to find out bus pickup locations.
