Complete Renovations Planned for Town’s Laurel Homes in Roslyn

North Hempstead, NY – Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Council Member Peter Zuckerman and the North Hempstead Housing Authority (NHHA) recently announced plans for new Laurel Homes, which will include the demolition and erection of all buildings, new community building, all-new sewer line, new upgraded electric and plumbing lines. The project will result in eight additional one-bedroom affordable senior units, along with 22 new parking spots.

“Affordable housing is vital to our community and providing safe, modern and pleasant homes is so important to me and my administration,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “The North Hempstead Housing Authority did a wonderful job on renovating the Pond View Homes in Manhasset two years ago and I am sure that the renovation of Laurel Homes will result in a contemporary and fresh look for this community.”

The developer for the project is Georgica Green Ventures, LLC.

In addition, the Laurel Homes community room will be relocated to an independent, one-story building that will be centrally located for easy accessibility for all residents. The new community room will feature a large party room, computer room, office, outdoor patio and a new laundry facility with separate entrance.

The project is scheduled to begin in the winter of 2019, and will consist of three phases, each lasting between six and eight months. The project will also increase the number of units from 66 to 74. Laurel Homes residents displaced by the construction will be moved to other units or to other NHHA properties for the duration of the construction.

“This is the last of the North Hempstead Housing Authority communities to be upgraded and we are very excited about transforming Laurel Homes into a beautiful and safer community,” said NHHA Executive Director Sean Rainey.

“This extensive renovation and upgrade to Laurel Homes will make for a better quality of life for all the residents,” said Council Member Zuckerman. “Everyone should be able to live in a safe, modern home that they can be proud of. The addition of eight new units exclusively for use by senior citizens, will be welcomed by our Town’s older residents.”

The Laurel Homes development was originally constructed in 1958. For additional information, please reach out to the North Hempstead Housing Authority at 516-627-6433.
