Supervisor Bosworth & Council Member Lurvey Approve Opening of Town Hall Lot for Customer Parking on Weekends

North Hempstead, NY –North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Council Member Veronica Lurvey and the Town Board recently approved a resolution that will allow residents to park in the Town Hall parking lot, located on Andrew Street, on weekends. The lot will open at 7 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. on both Saturdays and Sundays. This vote comes just a few weeks after the Town Board approved a resolution changing the parking restrictions on Plandome Road from 1 hour to 2 hours.

“When parking is difficult to impossible, it affect where we shop and we want to make it easy for our local shoppers,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “The new parking option will help promote our local businesses and encourage residents to shop local. As our communities continue to grow, parking is becoming a greater concern. By partnering with the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce, we are proactively addressing this issue.”

“It is important to me that I continue to work with the community to continue their efforts to encourage shoppers to shop along Plandome Road,” said Council Member Lurvey. “I believe that by opening the Town Hall lot on weekends, we will relieve the burden on drivers to find parking. Ultimately we all want to see our downtowns flourish, as this benefits not only our businesses, but also the character and quality of our communities.”

The Town Hall parking lot will officially open for shopper-parking on November 30, 2019, Small Business Saturday. Individuals who park their vehicles outside of the permitted hours will be subject to fines and towing. Ten spots in the lot will be reserved for Town employees; and the Town may suspend public parking in the event of a weather event.

For more information contact the Town’s 311 call Center at 311 or 516-869-6311.
