Town Hosts New Weekly NHTV At Home Virtual Programs

North Hempstead, NY - North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board are excited to announce that the Town’s Department of Community Services has expanded its virtual programming by adding new and innovative remote activities for residents. The offerings include targeted programs for children and seniors along with entertainment for residents of all ages.

“We have adapted our recreational offerings during these unprecedented times to present fun and interactive programs for residents to enjoy in the comfort of their own homes,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “We wanted to be able to offer programs that the Town normally hosts, but in a virtual setting so everyone can still participate. This ensures that we can do our part in helping to keep our residents safe and allow them to watch and learn something new at the same time.”

New programming highlights include the following:
• Cooking classes by the Cooking Lab in Port Washington
• Sign language classes by ASL Discoveries
• Japanese language class and crafts by Long Island Japanese Culture Center
• Bubble workshops by BubbleDad
• Art classes by Marie Saint-Cyr
• Yoga, singalongs, and more! Additional programs include basketball and football skills classes, kids dance parties, workshops from the National Circus project, and a reptile show featuring Erik the Reptile Guy.

New Project Independence exercise episodes debut on Mondays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., with many of the classes happening at the same time as they would in-person.

North Hempstead is also offering a Virtual Senior FunDay Monday program this summer, a series which offers seniors from throughout the Town with the opportunity to enjoy exciting programming from home.

The Town’s virtual programming has been a hit with residents with nearly 1,000 views for the first FunDay Monday on Facebook alone, which does not include the regular TV viewership.

In addition to appearing on the Town's social media channels, all programs are broadcast on the Town’s award winning government access television station, North Hempstead TV (NHTV). Residents will be able to watch the programs on channel 18 or 63 on Cablevision and channel 46 on Verizon FIOS or by visiting www.mynhtv.com.
