Statement: Port Washington Police Athletic League Clubhouse Vandalization
The Town of North Hempstead was recently made aware of a disgraceful hate crime that was committed at the Port Washington Police Athletic League Clubhouse. The clubhouse was broken into and vandalized, with a number of swasatikas spray-painted across the interior of the building. We emphatically condemn such appalling acts hate and intolerance. We understand that the Port Washington Police Department has detectives thoroughly investigating this case, and we are sure that they will use all available resources to determine the perpetrator or perpetrators behind this crime.

Threatening a group of people based on their religion, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation will not be tolerated. Not only are such actions immoral, but they are criminal as well. We are proud of North Hempstead's eclectic cultural diversity, and residents and neighbors should feel encouraged to embrace each other through civil discourse and education. We at the Town of North Hempstead will continue to promote messages of inclusivity, and we look forward to continuing to partner with the community in our advocacy efforts.
