Town of North Hempstead to hold Winterfest 08’ this Weekend
First ever Winterfest 08’ to feature Special Olympics Polar Plunge at Bar Beach this Saturday
Port Washington, NY—Supervisor Jon Kaiman and the Town of North Hempstead’s Business and Tourism Development Corporation invites residents to enjoy the town’s first Winterfest featuring the Special Olympics Polar Plunge, March 8, 2008 at Bar Beach. Registration will start at 9:00 am and the Plunge will take place at noon.
The vast array of activities at Winterfest 08’ will include the exhilarating Polar Plunge, a Chili Cook-Off Competition where Fire Departments from across the Island will compete for the title of “Best Chili on Long Island”, and a real Marine helicopter will land at Bar Beach. Winterfest will also feature ice carving and ice sculptures, children activities, informational displays sponsored by the police department, a free breakfast provided by Panera Bread and much more.
To register for the Polar Plunge visit the website www.SpecialOlympicsNY.org or call 311. Plungers are asked to raise a minimum of $100 to take the plunge. Students with a valid ID are asked to raise a minimum of $25.
The Polar Plunge is brought to you in partnership with the Town of North Hempstead, the town’s BTDC, Panera Bread, Police Benevolent Association Inc., NYS Fraternal Order of Police, Law Enforcement Torch Run, Radio Disney, New York Lottery, NYSUL, Apple & Eve, and CSEA.
