Rain Barrels and Composters Available to Town Residents

North Hempstead, NY – Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena and the Town Board are proud to announce that rain barrels and composters are now available for 2022. The Town is offering residents an opportunity to purchase a rain barrel and composter at a discounted cost.

Composting and using a rain barrel are two great ways to help the environment from your own backyard. Compost provides valuable plant nutrients, reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills or combustion facilities, and lessens or eliminates the need for synthetic fertilizers. Rain barrels are containers that collect rainwater that can be used for outdoor irrigation and help to conserve water use, allow users to save money, and reduce stormwater pollution.

The Town will have composters and rain barrels available for purchase at a discounted fee of $50 each (1 each per household). These items are only available to Town of North Hempstead residents and must be pre-ordered online or calling 311. Residents will then receive confirmation of their order and a pickup date. Pickup of the composters and rain barrels will be held at Clark Botanic Garden in Albertson.

For more information and to pre-order a rain barrel or composter visit northhempsteadny.gov/sustainability or call 311.
