Record-breaking Crowds Flocked to North Hempstead’s Memorial Day Weekend Fireworks and Salute to Our Troops and Veterans

Port Washington, NY North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman announced that this year’s Memorial Day fireworks extravaganza was one of the most successful events in recent memory.

Approximately 15,000 people attended the Memorial Day event held on May 24 at North Hempstead Beach Park (formerly known as Bar Beach and Hempstead Harbor parks).

According to Supervisor Kaiman, “Maybe it’s the ‘Staycation’ trend—where people are staying closer to home in order to save money on gas—or maybe it was the Fab Faux Beatles cover band, but the crowds were great and the event was a wonderful community tribute to our troops and commemoration to the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.”

In its curtain-raiser to the 30-minute long fireworks display, the Fab Faux aptly described the evening’s pyrotechnic eye candy through the lyrics of the mid-sixties Lennon-McCartney anthem, “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” Like the Fab Faux’ riveting performance, the fireworks display went off without a hitch and proved to be an awesome show.

The Town of North Hempstead would like to thank Boomer Esiason for his stirring introduction to the fireworks display. The town also grateful to all the others who contributed to the evenings success including the Nassau County Police Pipe and Drum band and Nassau County Police Color Guard, the Uniondale High School Junior ROTC Color Guard exhibition team and Rifle Drill duo as well as all of the veteran’s groups that were represented that evening.
