North Hempstead Celebrates National Night Out with Events Hosted Across the Town  

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, Council Member Robert Troiano, Jr., Council Member Veronica Lurvey, Council Member Mariann Dalimonte, and the Town Board invite members of the community to celebrate “National Night Out,” an opportunity to build neighborhood, police, and government partnerships. Celebrations will be held throughout the Town on Tuesday, August 1.

The Westbury event will feature a parade and festivities. Assembly for the parade will begin at the Salvation Army Westbury Corps Community Center (992 Prospect Avenue) at 5 p.m., and marching will start at 5:30 p.m. The celebration will continue afterwards at Martin “Bunky” Reid Park (Broadway and Swalm Street) at 6 p.m.

Whitney Pond Park (Community Drive & Community Drive East) in Manhasset will be hosting its third annual National Night Out event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

There will also be a National Night Out celebration at Lion Field (25 Glenn Lane) in Port Washington from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“National Night Out is an annual community-building initiative that helps make our neighborhoods safer and works to foster a true sense of community,” Supervisor Jennifer DeSena said. “I’m so proud that the Town will be hosting three of these celebrations at locations throughout Town. All are welcome to come and enjoy a night out with plenty of fun and activities for kids and adults alike.”

“National Night Out is an important community tradition,” said Council Member Troiano. “This event builds positive relationships between residents and law enforcement who serve the community. The partnerships forged at National Night Out are longstanding and help the community engage together.”

“We are extremely excited to have everyone join us for National Night Out in Manhasset,” said Council Member Lurvey. “Having established our very first National Night Out at Whitney Pond Park, it is particularly special to me. I look forward to continuing this tradition which connects neighbors, community groups, and officers of the 6th Precinct.”

“National Night Out is a great event that helps create lasting bonds and relationships between residents, law enforcement, local government, and businesses,” said Council Member Dalimonte. “I hope that many residents throughout Port Washington will join us for our event. Let’s make this National Night Out a memorable one.”

These events were made possible through partnerships with many community organizations. Westbury sponsors include: the Nassau County Police Department 3rd Precinct, the Westbury Fire Department, NAACP, AKA Sorority- Pi Pi Omega Chapter of Westbury, the Islamic Center of LI (ICLI), North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center, North Hempstead Housing Authority, Westbury School District, Target of Westbury, and the UBS Arena.

Manhasset sponsors include: the Nassau County Police Department 6th Precinct, Nassau PBA, Nassau PAL, Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department, North Hempstead Housing Authority, Manhasset Great Neck EOC, Manhasset Chamber of Commerce, and Macy’s of Manhasset.

Port Washington sponsors include: the Port Washington Police Department, Sands Point Police Department, Port Washington Fire Department, Nassau PBA, the Community Police Relations Foundation, North Hempstead Housing Authority, the Littig House Community Center, and the Port Washington Youth Activities, Sportime, and Arizona.

National Night Out is an annual community-building event that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, caring places to live. The event will feature music, singing, dancing, health care service providers, crime prevention information, educational resources, cultural entertainment, refreshments, arts & crafts, raffles, games, health screenings, giveaways, and more.
