North Hempstead to Host Diwali Celebration

North Hempstead, NYNorth Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, Town Clerk Ragini Srivastava, and the Town Board are hosting the Town’s annual Diwali celebration on Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Clinton G. Martin Park in New Hyde Park located at 1601 Marcus Avenue.

Diwali is a traditional Indian celebration also known as the Festival of Lights which symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. A number of local legislators will attend this year’s event which will incorporate cultural performances and activities representing the different dialects and regions of India. Those include a musical selection by Vijay and a traditional Indian folk dance presented by local residents. Light refreshments will be also served.

Town Clerk Ragini Srivastava noted, “Diwali is really very special time because it brings family and friends together. That’s why we welcome all our North Hempstead neighbors to join us in lighting up the night and embracing the joyous atmosphere of togetherness and renewal.”

Supervisor DeSena added, “If you’ve never experienced Diwali you really should come. The vibrant colors and the lighting of the lamp make for jubilant atmosphere and it’s really a fitting introduction to the beauty of Indian culture.”

The event is free of charge. Due to limited seating, all attendees must register in advance by emailing parikhs@northhempsteadny.gov calling (516) 869-7625.
