North Hempstead Announces Summer Program for Seniors
Port Washington, NY – Supervisor Jon Kaiman and the North Hempstead Town Board today announced this year's Funday Monday summer calendar. The program, which is administered by the Town's Department of Community Affairs, begins July 12th and runs through August 30th.
"I would like to welcome all seniors in the Town of North Hempstead to come down to Bar Beach this summer and be part of the Funday Monday program," said Supervisor Kaiman. "Since so many of the senior clubs disband for the summer, Funday Monday offers seniors the perfect opportunity to get together to renew old acquaintances and to make new friends."
For eight Mondays beginning July12th through August 30th (rain date Thursdays) seniors can gather for dancing, entertainment, exercise, card playing, and socializing. The program, which is held in pavilions at Bar Beach, runs from to It is suggested that seniors bring their own lunch from home; beverages and snacks are available at 25 cents per item.
Each week, at a. m. early birds can join walking instructor, Bruce McDonald, courtesy of the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs. Music for dancing, including line dancing, will be provided by old favorites Ron Coleman, the Long Island Swing Ensemble, Johnny LaRosa, Stan and Edie as well as some new surprises. There will be a Creative Hat Contest on August 9, Information and Assistance Fair on July 26, and a Patriotic Salute August 30.
"While Funday Monday is in session, parking fees will be waived for private cars," added Commissioner of Community Services Anne Croce. This program is open to all residents in the Town of North Hempstead aged 60 and over. There is also free bus transportation at specific locations throughout the Town.
