Town of North Hempstead’s Project Independence Hosts Presentation Titled: All About Forgetfulness

Port Washington, NY--With Alzheimer’s disease affecting an estimated 4.5 million older American, Supervisor Jon Kaiman and the North Hempstead Town Board announced that Project Independence is hosting another presentation in the ongoing series of senior-related “Health Chats,” titled “All About Forgetfulness.”

The July 27 presentation at the North Hempstead Community Center—located at 80 Manorhaven Blvd., Port Washington—explores what is “normal” when it comes to age-related forgetfulness and what are the early signs of Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive form of dementia.

The hour-long colloquium, presented under the auspices of Project Independence, North Hempstead’s ambitious “aging-in-place” initiative, is scheduled to convene at 10 a.m.

In addition to talking about what is normal, age-related forgetfulness, presenter Alana Rosenstein, a Licensed Master Social Worker and the Director of Early Stage Programs at the Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation, will also discuss reversible causes of memory loss, the importance of getting diagnosed and how to convince a loved-one experiencing frequent memory loss to see a doctor, among other things.
