North Hempstead Hosts Successful Senior Health Education and Information Fair

North Hempstead, NY—
Supervisor Jon Kaiman, Councilman Fred L. Pollack and Nassau County Legislator Wayne Wink recently welcomed scores of senior residents of the Town to North Hempstead’s annual FunDay Monday Senior Health Education and Information Fair on Monday, August 8th.

The all-inclusive fair, which provided residents practical assistance in the areas of physical, emotional, recreational and financial health, gave attendees the opportunity to participate in a variety of screenings and benefits from the services of more than 70 providers that participated, including government agencies, area hospitals, legal advisors and community and advocacy groups.

“Providing accessibility to adequate healthcare services for our seniors, as well as the latest trends and information available through both government and the private sector, is precisely what makes this fair unique and significant,” said Supervisor Jon Kaiman. “This event demonstrates just one more reason why CNN Money Magazine ranked the Town of North Hempstead one of the top 25 healthiest places to retire in the United States.”

Event organizers estimate that the event brought in over 500 attendees. Even more impressive, officials say, is that the number of agencies participating in the event nearly tripled, from just 25 the previous year to 70 in 2011.

“As the Town’s senior population continues to grow and expand, events such as this provide critical services that otherwise would not be readily available,” said Councilman Fred L. Pollack. “I am pleased that the Town has taken such a proactive role and we will continue to redouble our efforts to make North Hempstead the beacon on Long Island for all residents to enjoy.”
