Supervisor Jon Kaiman Hosts Town Hall Informational Session on Rising Concerns Over Helicopter and Airplane Noise
January 20, 2012 (516) 869-7794
North Hempstead – With worry growing over the din of helicopter and commercial aircraft noise, particularly in North Hempstead, Supervisor Jon Kaiman joined with local and state elected officials and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) representatives last week to host a Town Hall informational session designed to keep residents abreast of the situation and further the dialogue on the matter.
In addition to a group of FAA officials including the district manager and the airspace re-design specialists, the mid-morning meeting also was attended by a roster of “Who’s Who” in national, state, county and local politics: Congressman Gary Ackerman, State Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, Nassau County Legislators Judi Bosworth and Wayne Wink, representatives from the offices of US Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, State Assemblyman Charles Levine, Nassau County Legislator Richard Nicolello, and North Hempstead Council members, Anna Kaplan, Dina DeGiorgio, and Angelo Ferrara. A number of local village officials also attended, including Great Neck Mayor Ralph Kreitzman, president of the Nassau County Village Officials Association.
“The first step is to understand the issue so we are communicating with each other,” Supervisor Kaiman said. “People invest in a community and to have that world turned around seems unfair.” The plan going forward, Supervisor Kaiman said, is to convene another informational session sometime around early summer and than a public meeting after that.
