North Hempstead, NY — Supervisor Jon Kaiman and the North Hempstead Town Board unanimously confirmed Jennifer A. Fava to serve as the Town’s new Commissioner of the Parks and Recreation Department during the March 6, 2011 Town Board meeting. Ms. Fava, the current president of the New York State Parks and Rec Society, will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, staffing and program schedules of over 20 Town Park facilities as well as the Harbor Links Golf Course.
“Jennifer Fava brings to the role of Parks and Recreation Commissioner over 20 years of distinguished service in the Parks and Recreation field,” said Supervisor Jon Kaiman. “We are confident that Commissioner Fava will do an extraordinary job.”
Deputy Supervisor Christopher Senior noted the search for the new Parks Commissioner was lengthy and thorough.
“We actively solicited applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and geographies, which included over 100 distinguished members of the public and private sector,” said Deputy Supervisor Senior. “It was a rigorous process which led to a great group of finalists and our ultimate choice Jennifer Fava.”
Commissioner Fava was also a member of the Westchester Recreation and Park Society and the National Recreation and Park Society. As superintendent of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Yorktown, Ms. Fava increased revenue by 20 percent over five years, developed and managed a multi-million dollar budget and coordinated the expansion of a Town Wide trail system among other notable achievements.
