Town Announces Annual Row for Autism Event

North Hempstead, NY– Supervisor Jon Kaiman, Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio and the North Hempstead Town Board in partnership with Port Rowing and lead sponsor US Rowing are pleased to announced the first annual Row for Autism benefit event on April 21 at North Hempstead Beach Park. The free event will feature local North Hempstead high school crew clubs racing each other as well as afternoon rowing races by those affected by Autism.

“North Hempstead is proud to be co-sponsor of the first annual Row for Autism event,” said Supervisor Jon Kaiman. “Increasing awareness to rising incidences of Autism is an important and worthwhile endeavor and I hope all residents come to cheer on our terrific athletes.”

Donations received before or during the event are directed to funding an Adaptive Rowing Program to serve adolescents and teenagers with disabilities and will offer one week camp program as well as an on-going rowing program. Residents can donate online at www.PortRowing.com.

In addition to competitive races, onlookers can enjoy all the amenities at North Hempstead Beach Park, as well as an on-land “learn to row” station among other event features.
