Town Announces 2013 Project Independence Exercise Classes

North Hempstead, NY– Last week, Supervisor Jon Kaiman and the North Hempstead Town Board, advocating the administration’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles, announced the 2013 Project Independence exercise and fitness calendar.

Registration for the January sessions is already underway and many of the classes are quickly filling up.

Project Independence, the Town’s groundbreaking program created to help seniors live healthy, independent lives in their own homes and communities, provides a vast array of services while helping those 60 and older navigate the wide network of social services.

“It’s no secret that regular physical activity helps combat diseases and improves mood and stamina,” Supervisor Kaiman noted. “This is just one way that Project Independence can help enhance your quality of life.”

The free classes will be held at various locations throughout the Town. They will include yoga, tai chi, fitness and monthly Wii fitness sessions. Classes are open to members of Project Independence who reside within the Town. Those during the first half of the year will run from January 2013 through June 2013. All instructors are certified.

Residents can call 311 or (516) 869-6311 for more information and to register for classes.
