Are reducing and reusing more important than recycling?
Yes. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is the order of priority.

What should I do with bottle caps?
Put them out with your recycling.

Where can I discard hardcover books?
First try to donate. Otherwise, remove the hard covers and discard with household garbage; the pages can be recycled.

Can I recycle broken glass?
No. Please put out with household garbage.

Can I recycle cat litter?
No, put out with household garbage.

What can I do with my food scraps?
Visit northhempsteadny.gov/climateeducation to learn about how to reduce food waste and home composting.

How do I know these practices apply to my neighborhood? What if the TONH doesn’t collect my garbage?
