North Hempstead Asian American Advisory Committee

About Us

In 2021, Former Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Council Member Veronica Lurvey, and the Town Board formed an Asian American Advisory Committee in response to the rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in New York and around the country. The development of the committee was the result of building on the success of the Not In Our Town program and to help increase the dialogue with the Asian American community and to further promote kindness and compassion.

The committee has been able to:  

• Created Not in Our Town lawn signs that feature the message: “Stop Hate. Together.” in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Hindi, and Arabic.
• Created the Plant it Forward: Messages of Kindness Project
• Hosted a Virtual Bystander Training
• Further developed relationships between the committee members and leadership at the Nassau County Police Department’s 6th Precinct
