REDUCING WASTE

Reducing the resources we use helps keep waste out of landfills and our natural environment.  It helps humans and wildlife live a healthier life!

Here are some simple ways you can help!

  • Try to buy products with minimal packaging

  • Use a reusable shopping bag

  • Use a refillable water bottle and coffee mug

  • Pack lunch in reusable containers and bring metal utensils

  • Try to find a creative way to repurpose something before throwing it away or recycling it, like using a toothbrush to clean around the house

  • Donate old items to those in need

  • RECYCLE! In the Town of North Hempstead: Metals, Glass, Paper, Cardboard, and Plastics #1 and 2 can be placed in your recycling bins

  • Don’t forget to recycle your electronic waste properly by dropping it off at Town STOP events or a retail store that accepts it

  • Compost food and yard scraps instead of throwing them in the garbage; finished compost will provide nutrients to your soil and keep waste out of the landfill

  • Tired of receiving so much mail? There are many services that can prevent advertisers from obtaining your address to eliminate your junk mail. Visit Federal Trade Commission to learn more today!
